Aero problems

I hope someone can help me. I updated from windows XP to Vista Ultimate. I think most of the features work, except for aero. When I go into the Appearance window, I do not have aero to choose from. I only hve Vista basic, windows classic ans windows standard. My graphics score is only a score of "1". Is there anything I can do without having to buy a graphics card? And if I have to buy one, which one do you recommend. I am computer retarded, so speak simply please.

Hi Debby,
there is no real easy way of doing this for a beginner.

There is a tip available on this site that will let you change the 1 to something bigger but really there is no way you will see aero properly because of the Graphic Card it requires. The tip is here....Vistaheads Tip#6 - How to Change your Windows Experience Index ( WEI Score )

I tried to chage the 1 in xml wordpad, but I got a window that said access to the path was denied. Story of my life...always being denied something.
Thanks anyway. I will just have to invest in a graphics card.

try right clicking on the XML Wordpad icon and select Run As Administrator.
This might let you have access to the path,

you will have to upgrade your hardware to be able to have aero enabled on your machine.

Your video card may not have been upgraded automatically when the upgrade process to vista occured. That's the reason it's on a scale of One. It's using the default or generic video card driver included in vista. You may have to look up your PC manufacturers website and download the updated video card drivers for your PC. Windows aero is supported on modern video cards with at least 256MB or video RAM in order for Aero to work.
