Vista Ultimate x64-bit NOT RESPONDING error!

Ok this is VERY frustrating as I have tried everything I can think of without reinstalling vista, which I would like to avoid and leave as a last resort solution.

Problem:

When ever I click on any program, whether it be solitaire, firefox, windows update, any link on the internet, program files, etc...

So yes, every 15 seconds or so, I keep getting a not responding error that lasts a good 45 seconds (at least) and as i'm writing this, I already received 2 errors so i'm rushing this post so dont knock me for typing errors.

What I have Tried thus far:

• Updating Windows
• Updating Graphics Driver
• Disk Cleanup
• Disc Defragment
• CHKDSK under the C drive tools
• Numerous Virus Scans
• Forum Surfing for Answers

And to no avail, I cant spot the problem. PLEASE any of you wonderful people in here that can be my hero, I would be grateful. Its been going on for 3 days now and I've finally hit my boiling point. Thanks for any help in advance that you can give me.

Well just bumping this thread because it was typed at 3 in the morning and I just got back. Please any solutions that I can try?


My Hardware:

• OS - Windows Vista Ultimate (6.0, Build 6002)
• Processor - AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ (2 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
• Memory - 5118MB RAM
• Video Card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
• Sound Card - None (SoundMax Integrated)

Yeah, I had to completely redo windows. Never figured out what caused it though.
