Problem opening anything at all.

Recentley had a trojan on my laptop with 32bit vista ultimate installed, i managed to get the virus removed but now when ever i go to open a programme, or any sort of file it asks me what i want to open it with. Once i have chosen the right app to open i cant check it to continue using this so i have to reselect everytime i open it.

Could someone please give me some info on how i may be able to sort this.
