MSDN Version Microsoft Windows Ultimate

Hi guys,
I'm a newbie here but have something to ask you lot. I purchased vista ultimate of ebay a couple of months ago. I tried to apply for the windows 7 upgrade and was told that I have a msdn licence. Now how can that be, I was under the impression that a msdn version was downloaded. This come sealed, in the usual vista case and the product key sticker inside. My question is how do I tell if this is msdn version of the software?. What do they look like is there any way to distinguish them form the other versions?

I suggest going to a store and buying the op off the shelf . not off ebay some people on ebay don't know just what they have .
