Boot / BCD Error
Hello. My brother has an issue with his PC. I've tried everything I can to fix it myself but am not getting anywhere. Time to come on here and ask the experts!
The DVD Drive broke. A new one was purchased and replaced whilst the computer was shut down. When windows starts it now gives the error of:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardwware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1.insert windos cd and run a repair your computer option.
File: /boot/bcd
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: an error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
The problem is, we cannot boot off CD. Windows always comes up with the same error. I have checked the boot priority in the BIOS and it is correctly set to CD first.
The only way I could get the CD to boot was to unplug the hard disk but that obviously doesn't fix the issue.
How can I get Vista to Boot off CD to be able to repair the BCD file on the hard disk????
Any help is appreciated as my brother needs his PC badly and it's driving me mad trying to solve it.
Thanks for any help.
PS. Plugging in the old DVD Drive gives a different bcd error and still refuses to start.
