Microsoft Office Pro & Visio Error

Using the latest versions of Office Professional + Visio, when a file has been created in any of the programs ( docx, xls, vsd, etc) and I then try to close the program, it appears to close, then I get a message window that says the program has stopped working, then I get a message window that the program is restarting. The program does restart and then I can successfully close the program. Somewhere in there, I also get a message that a file is missing. It is a very long file name with a series of letters and numbers divided into groups by dashes. The file name is different every time, even if I am working with the same program file such as a saved xls file. Since this problem extends over not only Office Pro but also Visio, maybe it is a Vista problem.
