Vista not finishing SP2 Install

I put on Vista SP2. I have booted several times. Evrytime I shutdown I get "Configuring updates" on the boot up I get "Installing Service Pack Stage 3 of 3" that makes me wait about 30 seconds then goes to my logon screen. I cannot view any video files(mpg, AVI, FLC etc) I have tried MS viewers and 3rd party. None work. Also my Java is not working. I re-installed Java. I refreshed codecs. I spoke with MS support. They have been sueless so far. I am a tech with 30 years of support experience. Is any body else having a similar problem ?
