Firewire problems in Vista 64 ultimate
I just built a new Vista X64 PC using Intel i7 920 with 12 GB RAM as a video editing rig. I had been running Vista x32 successfully and capturing video via firewire on my Abit MB with Q6600 (4GB RAM) box to edit using Sony Vegas 8.0c. Now that I am in Vista 64 I cannot get vista to recognize my cameras (Canon XH-A and HV30) even though vista device manager is showing that the firewire device is properly loaded. I have installed other firewire cards in order to determine if it is a firewire chipset issue . . . they did not work. Reading various forums I am seeing strings saying that there is a Microsoft problem with firewire implementation in Vista x64.

I'm finding this hard to believe that such a required technical issue, firewire implementation, has been bypassed. Does anyone know if there is a fix out there for this?

Re: Firewire problems in Vista 64 ultimate
I too had a firewire problem. I usedthe front FW input and cooked my C mount board on my HVR Z1U 3 times before I found that it was the port that had the problem. Do you find that you have a power problem with camera since trying to use FW port?
It actually had the problem due to 6 pin vs 4 pin power pins. I guess it spikes the camera. Try another FW device in rear port, then front port to rule this out.
