Problem applying updates

Running Vista Ultimate with SP1 and all patches (except these two) applied. Auto updates enabled.

The system will not install KB963027 (Cumulative Security Update for IE7) and KB951847 (Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.)

I've tried installing individually and together. I've unstalled all versions of .NET as well, and I've run the MS autoupdate "repair" tools found in this (and other) forums. No luck.

I first noticed this when I attempted to upgrade to IE8. I got the message that I hadn't applied all of the patches in order to be able to upgrade.

Suggestions on where to start looking? Other info I can provide?

try going into the microsfot folder and into updates and renaming the update.xml file to update.old.xml and all should be well.
