Partition Hard Drive

I am running Vista ultimate and my hard drive is just one large partition. I would like to be able to create another partition and then reforamt that new partition. Then I would reinstall Windows Vista on that partition. I could then remove and reformat the other partition. Can I do that? and if so how?
