cant install vista service pack 2.. need help.

yesterday when I installed vista service pack 2 standalone (downloaded executable) , it showed "you have to install service pack 1 first".. but my vista ultimate has been service pack 1 for months..

any help would be so much appreciated.. thanks guys.
