I have read several posts regarding issues similar to mine, yet none are exact.
I run Vista Ultimate 64b and I was having NO trouble with my internet connection until just recently. I turned my computer on, only to have it arrive at a black screen and lock up. I restarted, and when I get back online it's not connecting to the internet.
I called my ISP provider, and they sent someone out to test everything. We concluded that my connection and modem were up and running, and he tested his laptop on my connection and it worked. My computer is simply having issues.
I've system restored a few times, and it's not working. I have viewed settings to make sure nothing is being restricted, but cannot find anything that would be preventing connection.
When I bring up my Network Connections, it's trying to connect to a Local IP that is a default for the computer. It gets to that connection with Limited Connectivity but will never connect to the internet or the IP provided by my ISP. Anyone have any ideas why this would happen so randomly? I changed no settings whatsoever.

Also, I am not using a router. My ethernet is connected directly into computer.
