Problems with Maxtor External HDD
Hello,
Yesterday I bought a Maxtor 250 gig "Onetouch 4 mini" external hard drive. This device is supposed to be plug and play. When I plug the device into my computer via USB (I have tried all the USB ports available on my computer) Vista tells me that it is attempting to install the device. After a bit, Vista informs me that the drivers for the device could not be located. It then searches the internet for a solution. Finally, a message shows us informing me that no solution could be found.
The drive does not show up under my computer, though after going through the "driver search" the device seems to show up under "other devices" in the device manager. When I check the properties of the device, it says "This device is not configured correctly (code 1).
The real icing on the cake, however, is that the device works perfectly fine on another computer running the same version of Vista!!!!!
After googling the crap out of my problem, and diligently searching the manufacturer website, I was informed that the missing drivers that Vista requires do not actually come from the manufacturer, but instead have to come from Microsoft. It was suggested that my USB drivers need to be fixed or updated. That has lead me here, as I have no idea if (1) that is true, or (2) how to do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I do not know where to go from here!
~thanks~
