Canon MP830 printer hard buttons wont bring up the scanner PC interface anymore...

I have an MP830 Canon scanner.. typically when you hit the scan to PDF (duplex or otherwise) option on the unit.. Vista (x64) will then pop up the scanning interface and save the pdf to the harddrive (based on the settings that are stored in mp navigator v2.2.. which still look fine)..

I cant get this to work anymore..

It will work fine if i first launch MP Navigator..

But upon pressing the hard button on the printer, i just get the vista wait cursor for a half second.. then nothing.

I've tried reinstalling mp navigator and the printer driver to no avail..

Anyone have any thoughts?

I'm thinking it may have something to do with missing registry keys for launching the app, but i forget where these are stored..

I also suddenly cant even scan from MPNavigator itself.. i get "scan failed".. my scanner driver is installed as Canon MP830 right now.. (I've turned off the printer, removed everything, registry included, then reinstalled twice now with no luck).
