Vista Ultimate needed a clean install
After 4 months struggling with a new laptop from Lenovo with Vista Ultimate preinstalled - no DVD ( backup was in a partition ). Unable to install SP1 / lots of participation from Microsoft ( in India ? ). Finally resulted in their sending a DVD which did not allow for an in place upgrade, because SP1 was not installed. A bit of a Catch 22. So did a clean install which was easier than expected. Retrieved back up from secure storage at Symantec - and am still sorting thru that looking for files - am sure they are there if I can only find them.
With SP1, Vista appears to be reasonably stable.
