"low memory" annoyance

since starting to play civilization 4 on my laptop, i've begun to receive messages that say my system is low on memory and to close programs to prevent information loss.

i have 2gb and 70% (where ram usage usually is) does not constitute being anywhere near low on memory. i reduced my pagefile to 1024mb because there is no reason to waste so much hdd for swap space when there is no need to use it. since hibernation doesn't even use the pagefile, that makes it even less useful in a system like mine.

how do i stop this box from coming up?

I always set the page file on vista to have a minimum of 2048 and max 3999. Wasting HDD space shouldn't be an issue as you should have more than enough.
I used to have the same kind of issue running COD4 but since adding the pagefile sizes I have had no issues at all.

Just increase the page file again or let windows decide, it does work in vista.

just how much is "enough"? 64KB of ram isn't enough

failing to have enough money at retirement shouldn't be an issue as you should have more than enough. this sentiment can be applied to anything and it will still be inaccurate.
