Vista crashes, but only at a specific time...
I have Vista Ultimate x64 with SP1. Since I had my PC, it shuts down at night (but not the "good" kind of shutdown, so I get the F8 menu every time I boot it). It was doing it every night and I have disabled System Restore and Windows Defender and now it has less problems but it still does it sometimes.

Can't be a hardware fault, I have changed the mobo, RAM, CPU and PSU! Harddisks are clean - no bad sectors. Memtest passes the RAM and the CPU is clean too.
Q6600 - 2x 2GB RAM - DFI LP DK X38-T2R - ...

Are there any other processes that are run every night at around 2AM?

I have thought about the power cutting off and have enabled reboot when that happens (in BIOS) but it doesn't reboot and I also have no evidence that this happens. It's weird, it only happens at night and never when I use it. I can stress it all day it will not error or budge. That's why I'm thinking a software problem with the OS.

Regards

Did you look at your scheduled tasks folder to see if anything is happening from in there?

I have a problem kind of like that.
I can't change the screensaver or power settings, the monitor
always shuts down after 15 minutes of inactivity.
I have even tried to change it in safe mode and admin mode
without favorable results.

I wish there were a way to disable ACPI control so that
it has an always on setting that's always on.

I almost forgot to mention that in order to turn off my computer
I have to select restart then hold in the power button at POST
very annoying.

Perhaps these problems may be related, something I may have overlooked or can't
change, like the hibernation and or sleep settings.
