Backgroun colour

Hi to all. well, I have problem with the background problem. I like to have it gray in Windows Explorer instead the white, default one. When I set the color in gray and press apply button, nothing happened regarding the new and desired color. It is the same annoying one, white when I start again windows explorer. Who can help me. I really need to change that color since I have 24 inch monitor and the white is to aggressive.
