Re: Local Area Connection renaming
You can edit network connection names by doing the following:
1. Go to control panel
2. Click on Network and Sharing Center
In the right hand pane, under the icons of your network connection it will say the name of your network with a link titled 'Customze' on the right hand side. Click on 'Customize'. This will open a dialog box allowing you to change your network name.
In this dialog box, there is also a link at the bottom titled 'Merge or delete network locations'. Click on this to view a list of network locations which Vista has stored. You can merge or delete them by clicking on the relevant buttons.

I swapped my mobo out and somewhere along the line my connection has become LAC2. If I try to rename it tells me there is already a LAC so t cannot rename. I do not have any other connections visible but seem to remember changing some settings whilst setting up static ip's.
Ive tried system restore and uninstalling my LAN drivers to no effect. There must be ab 'old' connection somewhere that's not showing.
Getting near to a reinstall of Vista but im not sure thats going to solve it
