Can't Open .jpg files

Hello,

I have been trying top open some .jpg files that are saved in my documents folder that I received over Yahoo Messanger from a friend.

when i try to open them with the photo Gallary I get the error that this format is not supported.

when I try to open them with MS Paint i get the error that they are not a valid .dmp format.

if I open msPaint make a bunch of lines on a page and save it as a jpg I can open it fine.

if i download and save images from the web it seems to work fine.

My friend is using Vista, he produced the .jpg both from Photo shop and from Ms Paint.

any suggestion.
I was also wondering if it’s possible to rename a file in vista and at the same time change the exstension?

Try resetting file association for jpg and see. Before that run a antivirus and antispy scan.

To set File Associations in Windows Vista, Open Control Panel > Programs > 'Make a file type always open in a specific program'.

You will be displayed a list of Programs along with a Description and the Current Default. You can click on the Change program to set/re-set the current defaults.

The issue ended up being Yahoo messenger.

it would tell me that the document finished downloading successfully but the person who sent me the image would get a "transmission error message"

I would go to open the document and nothing would happen.
