Hi guys I hired a guy few months back to build my pc and now i ran an update on my vista and it saying that my vista is not legit. So I called the guy that build it and he said that my vista is hacked. Anyways I guess hes right because i never did buy vista. So went to newegg last week and bought a new vista ultimate arriving tommorow. My question should i reinstall the os? or I can do the 'change product key' feature? and if i do change the product key the product ID will be the same right?
Changing the product key should also change the product ID - the PID is the portion that microsoft uses to verify that your windows is legitimate. However - once your key has been changed, Vista should continue to work as normal with no effect to your day-to-day operation other than the ability to receive and install downloads.
