Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application name: svchost.exe
Fault Module Name: StackHash_e17d
Of course I click to check online for a solution, but nothing seems to happen.
At approximately the same time, I receive a message from Windows Media Mediacenter that a critical windows process has stopped and to contact my vendor (Acer) if the problem occurs again (after reboot). Of course it happens!
I did a lot of online searching which is how I found this forum.
The only suggestion (multiple places and people) was to delete QM*.* file in a "hidden folder which I did but had no effect.
My Machine came with Windows Vista Home and I spent the $259.00 to buy the Windows Vista Ultimate upgrade. Decided to attempt to reinstall Windows and discovered that I can only use the CD to upgrade a lower version so I was stuck with a system without Windows media center working.
I use Acronis for full volume backup and decided to bite the bullet and restore my C: drive (all programs and little data lost). The only negative is that the recovery took from 5pm to 2:30pm a little less that 12 hours (Backup takes about an hour.
The recovery seems to have "fixed" the problem.
Moral!
