how to delete system partition
I have Vista installed in drive C and an left over xp in drive D. Both are active and as primary partitions. Vista take up a lot of space in C: so I am thinking to delete D: so I can extend C: volume. But as I know that one can not delete system partition and the "delete" option is greyed out. So,any ideas how to do this short of re-format the hard disc and re-install Vista from the ground up?

This hard disc also contain three more logical partitions. In the old days one can use Fdisk to do something about it.But I am not sure how in Vista.

Think I finally made a big mess here. I went on took my hard disk to a Win98 computer and fdisked , partitioned(now only 2 drives are there), formatted, transfered system files. Re-connected to my computer, now Vista don't even install. Under "Collecting Information" it says "Window is unable to find a system volume that meets it's criteria for installation."
So what went wrong? Win98's system files too old? Pls help.

Re: how to delete system partition
hi there!

since it came from a windows vista probably when you used it in win98 your drive's format type changed in fat32, try making it NTFS first. I think win98 does not recognize NTFS format. You can check it if its in FAT32 or NTFS by right clicking on My Computer then click manage and then disk management.

Re: how to delete system partition
Thanks for the reply. Think I resolved the problem after many intall and reinstall of the system. One of the pin in the hard disk connector is broken.I went out bought a new seagate and it works all right. Many thanks again.
By the way Win98SE does recongnize NTFS but only format to FAT32. But Vista install only in NTFS so one has to format to NTFS during installation.
