Vista + Bootcamp

Hi everyone, new poster here so bear with me.

I'm not sure if I am going to be able to get the answer I am looking for here or not but here it goes.


I have been running Mac OSX and using Bootcamp which allows me to run Windows OS. Recently I had to switch from Windows XP to Windows Vista. I bought Windows Vista Home Basic OEM on eBay. For some reason I cant get it working currently becuz there is a problem with the OS. I was told to get a better version of Windows Vista. So I ran out and bought Vista Ultimate Upgrade.

Last night I installed Vista and went to upgrade to Ultimate and it was telling me to install the Vista Upgrade onto a Genuine Version of Windows on the partition I had Vista basic on. Is there a problem when upgrading from a OEM to Ultimate?

There should not be a problem when upgrading from OEM Basic to Ultimate. The problem that I think that you are having is the OEM version that you bought off eBay was not legit. So I would suggest either buy vista basic and then use your upgrade or just buy the full version of ultimate. Let me know how it all goes for you.

Perhaps I'm wrong but my recollection of the microsoft licencing is that one CANNOT upgrade an OEM version to a non-OEM version. That would explain the message you are getting. Either you need a non-OEM version to upgrade from, or an OEM version of Ultimate upgrade, if such is available, if I'm right about the licencing.
