Vistaheads Tip#5 - How to change the location of the Event Viewer Log Files
Vistaheads Tip#5 - How to change the location of the Event Viewer Log Files
If you would like to view information on every aspect of the going ons within Vista then there is no better way than to view the Event Viewer. It can be handy sometimes to have quick access to these files and to have them a specific folder can be handy. To change where the Event Viewer Log Files are stored check out the following:
1. Create a folder to store the files in.
2. Click the Start Button, then select Run.
3. In the box type regedit.exe and hit Return.
4. Expand to the following branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Eventlog.
5. Select the desired log file.
6. Right Click and Select Edit.
7. Change the Value data to the folder you created in step 1. e.g. from %SystemRoot%\system32\winevt\Logs\System.evtx to C:\EventLogFiles\System.evtx)
8. Close Regedit.
9. Restart your computer.
