Windows Mail not working

I have been using Windows Mail OK for some time now, but now I have these problems that happen with windows mail:
a. I open a received email and it opens behind the main mail page; and
b. when I go to type a message in the message panel the cursor disappears
and I am unable to make a message.

I have done a system restore and the problem continues, this has now happened on my partners computer also.

As I am not an advanced computer user any help in simple terms appreciated.
