where to log in not known.

hello there,i am using a hp pavilion vista.when i am asked to log in as administrator i can not find where to do so.i have the pass word information but can not find where to do so. at start up there is no apparent place, please help a very new uneducated novice.thanks walldo54.(yes it is that bad.)

I have a HP Pavilion with Vista Home Premium and on occasion have been asked to put in a password when it is not needed, (but not at start up) I simply press enter and it opens.

When you say you are asked to logon as administrator what program has asked that?

Need more details to assist you. Can you provide exact information on what you where doing before you got asked to logon as administrator

BrianN,I have replied to an email to you so if this is redundant sorry,i am using a hp pavilion computer & windows vista home premium.start up is ok.it is when i try downloading from web for example when trying to update firefox mozilla it will say "you do not have sufficient privilege log on as administrator"i have not seen a place to do so?if you know about this please respond if time permits.thank you very much for your response,walldo54

Walldo54, It is a bit confusing, updates to firefox are usually automatic not requiring privileges. However privileges are usually given thru the properties box. Suggest you try this "with your cursor on the desktop icon of Firefox Mozilla right click and a popup will appear on the bottom of the list click on 'properties' when the next screen opens click on the security tag highlight your user name and check what permission you have and change them to suit your needs. Hope this helps

Further info from Mozilla Support:

" Attempted to update to Firefox 3.6 on my MAC OSX 10.4 desktop. Downloaded file, dragged into applications , then couldnt replace the older file with update ...message was I have ' insufficient privileges'"
