Screen Resolution changes unexpectantly

I am not a tech person. My problem is the screen resolution changes from what it was when I turned the computer off 1024 x 768 to 800x600 when I turn my computer on in the morning. I have set the screen resolution thru the control panel but it still changes. What is happening, can anybody give me some advice.
