viewsonic vx2235wm + acer aspire M5620 Display help

hello there's
a recent problem I ran i ran into today my mouse froze and screen flickered right after and then i unplugged my mouse cuz i thought if i got it to light back up again and plug it in again the light on my mouse would come back on and the screen would come back on now the problem i'm having isn't the screen flickering anymore i plugged the mouse back in and the computer restarted back to my vista home premium desktop screen, only everything is much too big!

like my title says i am runnin' a viewsonic vx2235wm monitor with the
acer Aspire M5620

as well I cant move the resolution slider bar in my start >control panel> control panel home> adjust screen resolution

my current resolution reads 640x480 and is locked up pretty good. and i only got 32-bit for colours dunno if that's right or not.

just wondering what my default resolution should be overall and what i could at least try..
