Flash Player vista home premium
Assistance will be appreciated.
I am unable to get Internet Explorer 8 to run with Adobe Flash Player 10.n
I have a dell inspiron 1501 laptop running vista home premium 32 bit SP1 and have just upgraded IE7 to IE8.

IE7 did run with adobe flash player prior to IE upgrade.
My Firefox browser works okay with Flash Player version 10.2.152.26

Fault symptom - Flash Player fails to install, fault message " The activeX for Flash Player could not be registered"
I have run flash uninstall and confirmed that flash is uninstalled using adobe website - http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/before trying to download/install flash player.
I have ran adobe "Troubleshoot Flash Player installation for windows" as prompted by the adobe install fail window.
I also ran "subinacl.exe/reset_fp10.cmd (prompted by "Troubleshoot Flash Player installation for windows") which produced
a window - C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe script which states "Warning :Unable to set a SeSecurityPrivilege privilege.
This privilege may be required.
C:\Windows\System32\Macromed - CreateFile Error : 1314 A required privilege is not held by the client.

Also I have noticed that under Start/All Programs , I cannot see folder 'accessories' - even though 'accessories folder is resident
on my c drive - C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories.
Also IE8 (no addons) is not listed under "System Tools" within Accessories folder.
I suspect that my vista registry is corrupt - I have tried registry repair using my Norton Utilities but fault symptom still persists.
Can I repair the registry without having to reinstall vista home premium?
Thankyou

Update to post - I now have access to another dell inspiron 1501 laptop with same vista OS home premium SP1/IE8 and same configuration settings etc. This other dell inspiron 1501 laptop IE8 works okay with flash player and in its flash folder in path C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash, has the following :
FlashPlayer Trust folder holding a rpconverter.cfg file
Flash10m.ocx
FlashUtil10m_ActiveX.dll
FlashUtil10m_ActiveX.exe
FlashInstall text log
install text log
My flash folder in path C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash after adobe message " The activeX for Flash Player could not be registered" is displayed at end of flash install fail, has same as above except it does not have a FlashPlayer Trust folder\rpconverter.cfg and does not have a "install" text file.
Any one got advice please
thanks

Hi poseidon,

try download the standalone installer from http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flas..._player_ax.exe

Then when the file is downloaded right click on the file and select "Run As Administrator" and see how this goes.

Let us know how you get on,

regards

Steve

Re: Flash Player vista home premium
Hi poseidon,

go to Can?t install Flash Player | Windows registry permissions and follow the instructions

This should help with some of the Registry permissions that are being affected during installation.

regards

Steve

Thanks Steve for your advice, unfortunately I have already tried what you suggest in link above - covered in my original post - registry test showed CreateFile Error : 1314 A required privilege is not held by the client. From looking across other forum (Adobe community) it appears to be a 'growing problem' common to different windows OSystems, some fixes work for some but not for all. I am pretty sure that the registry is corrupt for IE/FlashPlayer entry but very reticent to try to edit the registry as vaguely outlined under adobe forum, but I will backup my hard disc to separate hard drive and consider 1. a regedit change 2. a complete reinstall of factory config OS or 3. live with it as my firefox browser works perfectly.
However this fault is frustrating, especially as it appears to be quite widespread and I cannot determine why it occured - I am very consciencous on what i download/visit so I can only suspect that adobe flash player install utility may be the cause but cannot prove it.
Hopefully someone might post a script to fix the registry error
regards and thanks poseidon

Re: Flash Player vista home premium
Hi poseidon,

lets try the following:

1. From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
2. Click on Add or remove user accounts.
3. Select Manage another account.
4. Select Create a new account and follow the instructions to complete the account setup process.
5. Give the new user account full administrative rights.
6. Once the new account is created restart the PC.
7. Log into the newly created user account.

Then try the instructions in Can?t install Flash Player | Windows registry permissions again.

Hopefully this should get it sorted without any reinstalling,etc..

regards

Steve

I did exactly as u said above under a new administrator account BUT the "subinacl.exe/reset_fp10.cmd returned
C:\Windows\System32\Macromed - CreateFile Error : 1314 A required privilege is not held by the client.
So I am no further forward - baffling to say the least!
thanks

Re: Flash Player vista home premium
Hi Vince,

just wondering if you could run the .cmd file again. This time instead of Double Clicking on it could you right click and select Run As Administrator from the dropdown.

Try this in the new "administrator" account you made.

regards

Steve

Thanks Steve
I did as u said under the other admin account BUT the message returned in the subinacl.exe/reset_fp10.cmd script states 'Subinacl' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
I assume this means that it is not a legitimate command (when I executed right click run as administrator)
what do u think?
