Hi guys, 1st off I want to thank anyone/everyone, in advance for any & all help. I went to play a movie today & noticed that my CD/DVD drive is not reading any disks (movies/reformat disk/etc.) I went to "Computer" only to find that the drive just doesn't exist there any more (only C drive & Q are showing).
I attempted using the system restore function. This showed that the drive now existed, but before I was able to load/test a disk, my media player froze. Upon reboot, the drive was gone. I tried system restore (at 1st a few days prior, then as far as it dated back--maybe a couple weeks?) Failed.
I went to microsoft.com's suggestion (
Your CD or DVD drive can't read or write media), downloaded the .bat file under "Run Now," but got an error message "Bad Image: windows32/sytem/ncrypt.dll is not designed to run on Windows or contains an error..." followed by error message "We're sorry, but this certificate is not trusted or valid." I'm not sure if these messages are related to my problem or not.
I also went into the registry to delete the upper/lower filters (as I saw on another suggestion), but there weren't any filters to delete--I carefully double & triple checked to make sure I was into the correct folder.
In addition, I attempted to root through the 'Device Manager' in hopes of finding something along the lines of 'CD/DVD' but didn't have any luck--I looked through every available tab, so it either isn't there, or I don't know what it'd be labeled as.
I am desperate for ANY help at all to resolve this severely annoying problem. Thanks again for any help/suggestions. I'd love to just reformat/reinstall Windows, but can't because I can't boot/load the disk!
