i have the product key but no os or boot disk for os

this is very frustrating even tho i have a product key i dont know whether it will work if i download an illegal version and try to activate it

my manufacture (sony vaio) keep putting me through to windows site and windows dont want to know about it >=[

has anyone got any ideas??

FatChris. You are only asking for trouble downloading an illegal copy. What you would be better of doing is borrowing an installation disk and installing from that.
Keep in mind though you can only use your key for the windows version it is intended for. If the key is for Home Premium it will only work with Home Premium.
Another thing to look at (assuming your on a laptop) you should have a partition (normally hidden) that contains a copy of windows that will restore your computer back to factory settings.
Not sure how to access it on a Sony Vaio. If you have a manual it could be in that or Sony should help you there.
