Need help with Speech Recognition!!!
I'm new to the forum and apologize if the answers I seek are possibly here but I can't find them.
I am a free-lance writer. But I also have 3 torn lumbar disks in my back and I can not sit for very long. I purchased a decent headset with microphone and have begun using the Windows Speech Recognition software that comes with Vista. I have numerous issues but need help with these at the moment...
1. Although I have done the "teach your computer" part numerous times, the system does not seem to remember anything. In other words, it makes just as many errors as it did in the first use. Whenever I do go back for more teaching, it always gives me the same script to read. Should there be new ones? Does this thing really learn or am I hoping for too much?
2. It seems to do better some times than others. In other words, I will start it up and it will make errors on 60% or more. Next time, it makes less than 15%. It seems that if I "set up my microphone" again and then continue using the software that time, it does better than when I simply open the program and begin using. Why is this?
3. Does anyone know whether I would be much better off using Dragon 10? I've heard it's much better but have also heard it doesn't work well with 64 bit OS and support is awful.
Please, anyone... any help would be greatly appreciated. I really need this to work. I will literally have to give up writing if I can't make this work. It takes me 5 times longer to write 1 page using the software as opposed to typing at this point. And the constant interruption fixing errors screws with the flow of writing. I can't believe that this software is truly this bad. Dragon says 97% accuracy and other message boards have said this is nearly the same. But I can't get anywhere near that number. I do not speak with any decernible accent. My father was a radio broadcaster for many years and I learned to articulate very well. We lived all over the country so I lost all previous regional accents. My wife is also trying to use it with similar results. So I doubt it's my articulation that's causing the issues.
Thanks for the help in advance!
