Sony Vaio with no sound... Any help?

Hi all

I'm new to the forum. I'm running Vista home premium on a Sony Vaio CR21S, but the sound works very erraticaly. I'm hoping someone can point me towards a patch of some kind.

The sound isn't muted anywhere on the system and I still get the Windows log-in chime, but otherwise the sound comes and goes as it pleases, which is maddening. I've looked around Google for an answer and having read a lot of posts elsewhere describing the same problem, I suspect that it's a glitch between the Vaio and Vista, but no one seems to have a decent answer.

Does anyone have any ideas?
