vista messed up
the days before i updated my laptop, everything went fine and really smooth. on last monday, i was prompted to update my system so i did it. at first the updating process wasnt succesful and i have no idea why. before shutting down, it tried to install updates and there were 9 updates to be installed. the laptop kept showing installing updates 9 of 9...
out of the blue it shut down itself straight away without any shutting down notification as usually after installing updates succesful, laptop must be showing shutting down notification. so i assumed that it wasnt succesful. the next day, i switched on my laptop and tried to install the updates manually. and yes, it was succesful. and it also installed ie8 into my laptop.

it automatically restart and then the problems began to persist. at first, i noticed that my mcafee antivirus have gone. then the media player's not working. youtube videos and thumbnails didnt show up. few links on the websites arent working. google gadgets corrupted. when i tried to move any files into thumbdrive or delete them, it will prompt, "Could Not Find This Item. This is no longer in [folder]. Verify the item's location and try again".

by the way, now my laptop is back to normal because i've reset it to factory setting.

buti want to know is it the updates that was messing up my vista or what?

Re: vista messed up
ayie7 Hi
IE8 could be the troublemaker. I did install it at one stage but soon got rid of it. Caused lots of problems. I have had no problems with any other updates.
IE8 will only install if you approve the update. If you want to check if IE8 caused your problems, install it and if you do have problems just uninstall it and IE7 will be reinstated.
