As you can see im new to this place. I have a very irritating story to tell and i welcome any help i can get. I apologize if this question or situation has been raised already but i really couldnt find the search function
Here it is:
A few months ago I purchased a laptop for my gf, an acer laptop. aspire 5735-4401 running windows vista x64 home premium.
after a few months of usage, it starts crapping out on my gf (overheats, turns off on its own, hangs up, etc..)
so then i decide to get her to call futureshop as she has extended warranty. *irritation number 1* Futureshop then tells me that if its not been a year yet then it has to go to acer first.
i then ask my gf to call acer and see what they can do. *irritation number 2* acer tells her "yah sure we'll fix the laptop, just ship it to us on YOUR OWN expense" and i am like ###! so yah screw them, i dont care even if this is kosher but i think thats bad customer service making your clients pay because they built crappy equipment.
anyway, i then decided to just reformat her computer and reinstall everything. I have an OEM disc myself so i used that to install vista w/o having to format it and then it keeps telling me invalid product key!!
(double check, triple checked the product at the back of the laptop)
so then im thinking, maybe.. i should format it first then install it because maybe the key is invalid because its being used at the moment!
makes a lot of sense.. soooo, format, wait, wait, wait.. then i install it, i input the product key, what dya know, INVALID PRODUCT KEY!
so then, i go to *irritation number 3* yah, i called microsoft. ms then tells me, "oh yah sir, it seems to be a valid key, i have no idea why it does not work though, maybe acer did something on it that it makes it not recognize it, if you like i can have my technician figure it out for 60bux!" and im like wow, does nobody support theyre own s**t anymore without paying additional fees?!
so now, im stuck with a laptop that will blow up in 30days if i dont activate it and as a side problem, it only recognizes 3gigs of ram instead of 4 maybe related maybe unrelated.
PLEASE, any help is appreciated!=)
