IIS wil not start
I've just installed IIS, but when I attempt to start it, I get an alert saying that "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070020)"

I have had this problem too
usually it was the Windows Updates... so you need to install updates restart the computer and it will be fine,

but if not it maybe some other process... so
"...You can run NETSTAT -ano and find out the PID for the process that is using port 80, then you can compare that PID with the process name in task manager [may be skype.exe?]"

from IIS Manager Error: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070020) : The Official Microsoft IIS Site

hope this helps

Thanks for your effort.

I ran NETSTAT as you suggested, nothing is using port 80.

In the beginning of my struggle to make IIS working, Skype was active and using port 80, but in another forum I was adviced not to have Skype running when I needed IIS to run, so I changed settings in Skype not to start when booting the computer.

My Vista is fully updated and restarted several times.

But still I'm unable to make IIS run. When I try, I now get the error message:

The format of the specified network name is invalid
(Exception from HRESULT: 0X800704BE)

Yours
