Windows Error Message - Can't check Mail!!!!
Hi,

Everytime I try to check my email through windows mail, I get the following error message (no matter which of my accounts I try to check)

Unable to send or receive messages for the "XXXXX" account. The connection to the server has failed.

Server: 'pop-server.nyc.rr.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E
Protocol: POP3
Port: 995
Secure(SSL): Yes
Socket Error: 10060

But what I do not understand is I had the problem with regular windows mail, so I installed Live Mail, and it is still saying this.

Any help would be great, since logging online and checking it that way gets a little tiring after a while!

Thanks

Hi

The mail error code means "cannot connect to server"

If you check the POP3 and SMTP settings(tools/account option in mail for example pop.upcmail.ie and your password from your broadband supplier (IP)

Hi,

As cypher has mentioned, check your account settings to see if they are correct. You could also try checking your ISPs website (if this is the alternative way that you can access your email) to see if they have changed any required settings (they may have done some upgrades which require that you change your account settings). If they haven't, check your firewall settings and grant 'WinMail.exe' access to the Internet (I am not sure what the executable for 'Live Mail' is, but it should be something similar and you should grant this access if you are using it as your mail client). This should, hopefully, solve your problem, but if not you will have to continue using the Web interface. Keep trying Windows Mail or Live Mail - you might find that access will return after a while. I had a similar problem for about a week with AOL - Windows Mail kept throwing up a similar error message about not being able to access the server and I had to revert to the Web interface. Incidentally, the problem disappeared as quickly as it happened and I have had no more problems since.
