Avi files in movie maker shows as audio files

I've got a 64 bit vista and i really enjoy making movies but when i import avi into Movie Maker it only shows as an audio file, i can watch the videos in Media player and i've used the same videos on Xp without any problem. i've tried installing the divx codec without any sucess what should i do?
