Sorting Files Options

I have my folders set up with various "View By" options. Type/date received etc etc. However my abilty to sort files within a downloads folder of mixed pictures and video is now almost non-existant. No matter what options I choose of icons/list/details the only sort function that works is by name. Any ideas how I can restore the other sort options?

DOH!! The only information any of the clips in the folder had were the names (no dates/tags etc). I was trying to sort on blank data fields! .
