Sophie, see if this helps: run your search for the unwanted files; when the list appears, try to open one of them; if it opens, delete it again (& do this for all the files); if it doesn't open, you may get an error message that says something like"..do you want to delete this shortcut?". Say yes. Run the same search again & keep deleting at each level till the stuff no longer appears in your search results.
Does this mean the files are really gone & some undelete utility won't retrieve them? I dunno, but at least the names won't be listed via the search function.
