Backup is a DVD waster!

I have tried multiple times to backup my files and this last time I was on the second disc when it stopped and told me again the back did not complete successfully. It reads:
"The backup target drive E:\ failed with one of the following error:
The backup location cannot be found or is not valid. Review your backup settings and check your hardware configuration. (0x81000006)"
Now, When I click on the change backup settings, it goes directly to the "Where do you want save your backup" screen and now I can't even choose On a hard disk, CD, or DVD. This whole backup system sucks, I've wasted at least 10 DVDs attempting it without 1 successful backup. Can anyone help?

Something to consider: if the data you're attempting to back up needs more than 1 DVD, the problem may be that the backup program needs to access something on the 1st disk at the time your 2nd is in the drive. I've been backing up to an external HDD with no problem; you could try that to compare, or, if that's not an easy option, see if you can back up successfully if you limit your data to what will fit on 1 DVD.

Okay, I tried doing the backup again and limited some of the files, so i think it would on 1 disc. This time it stopped again and gave me this message: "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.(0x8007045D)" I think i get a new excuse every time.

Could you describe your H/W & S/W configuration? Error messages don't always describe what's really wrong (or maybe you have more than 1 problem)

I have the HP a6330f PC. 3 GB RAM, 32 - bit operating system. Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1. you probably want more info, but i'm not sure what.
