internet connectioin

my son cleared out his cookies and temporary files yesterday. Since that time he cannot get onto the Web either wireless are direct connect to a modem He has Vista Home Premium and here is the error:
"www,google.com" is not set up to establish a connection on port "World Wide Web service (HTTP)" with this computer. Has anyone seen this or have an idea what happened?
