windows media player 11 will not start (help!)

Hi there,
new here (and a complete ignoramus when it comes to computers so please bear with me!). My Windows Media Player has stopped working since I downloaded the Wavepad programme. I have gone through what seems like a billion threads and have tried majority of solutions suggested to now avail.

When I try starting WMP, the little circle (hour glass thingy) comes up for about a second and then nothing happens. I have tried to run WMP as an administrator, tried opening it from file location, I have tried the task manager (wmplayer.exe is not running) and I have also tried running regsvr32.exe on cmd.exe and NONE of the above work!!! I have also downloaded Vistamanager from Yamicsoft (which was somebody's suggestion) and also restored my registry to before I installed the programme. I have no idea whether i should have been doing any of those things, but I did, and none of them worked!

Oh and forgot to say when I tried the cmd.exe this came up: DllRegisterServer failed error code 0x800281c and when I tried running regscr jscript.dll it failed with error code 0x80004005. (whatever that means????) Oh and forgot to mention I did want to try and uninstall and reinstall WMP but it wasn't in the list of the removable programmes! ???

I have had my laptop for less than a month and was hoping it would take a bit longer until everything stopped working!!! Any suggestions?!? Pleez.... Desperate...

It sounds like you have had lots of suggestions thrown at you..and I am sure one of them was to try uninstalling wavepad and see if wmp works ok....have you tried that? you cannot uninstall wmp as it is a part of the windows system
