Updates Failed to install Service pack 1

Hi, I have been trying to install updates after reinstalling Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit. I keep getting failed updates, especially for Service Pack 1. Sometimes it says it installed successfully, however when I check my computer's properties, it's not listed. Please tell me how to manually install Service Pack 1 and it's updates. Also, do I need to install Drivers before or after Service Pack and other important updates? Thank you for any and all help~
