No Sound on Vista Laptop

It appears to possibly be muted but I can't find any way to get the sound back. When I double click on the speaker icon on the toolbar the speaker window comes open. Then when I put the courser over the speaker at the bottom of the window it says "Mute".

i think u must reinstall vista and sound drivers.
