Folder & files inaccessible

Hello,

During a switch of computers, our .jpg files got copied from an XP machine to a Vista machine. Once I tried opening those files and folders it stated in various ways I did not have appropriate access. I have attempted to change the general folder settings as a blanket approach, however this does not work. Could anyone suggest what I need to do, other than changing the security settings on the thousands of individual family pictures...
