vista activation problem

I have windows vista home basic and I keep getting the message that This copy of windows is not genuine.
It says windows vista(TM) build 6002 service pack 2
Yet when I go thru the activation process it says my product key is invalid..
I know this can not be right it came in a sealed pack from microsoft please help???

Ditto mine is new e-machine with same prob. was told to go on line to: microsoft service pack 2000 but no luck getting new code. Goodluck Ill be watching for fix too.
