Invalid Product Key?

Hi,

I got a new Acer laptop for my birthday in December, and to be honest I put off entering my Vista product key until now my trail period is over as I wasn't sure how to find it. My brother told me to check for a sticker underneath my laptop and (of course) it was there.
However when I type it in it just comes up that my product key is invalid - I've checked the number again and again, but it's just not working.

I suggest you contact Microsoft and tell them your problem they have a toll free number and they will find your solution to this problem right away.Is this bundled with your laptop? This is important to know. Good Luck yahir

~I phoned up this morning, and was told that what I had been using was merely a trial and that I had to buy it in order to use it. But it was my understanding that I had paid for it to come with my laptop... why would I be given a product key if I had to buy Windows Office?
The guys on the phone - I phoned twice cause I wasn't happy - were pretty adimant that I had to buy it...
