Error code 1721

Hi Gang, I'm new to this whole thing so bear with me as far as my explainations of my problems.

I guess my first issue is, I keep getting "ERROR CODE 1721" when I try to check for updates for all software that offers free updates including Windows.

Have paid big bucks to an online repair service that theoretically checked and removed viruses, worms and whatever else can happen with these darn machines... no luck!

Then I purchsed a program called RegCure at a cost of about $60.00.
It found over 350 errors and proceded to correct them as they claimed it would do. The results seemed to be now is that something called "Destinations.msi" is no longer available and it's asking me to install from a valid disk?????? Still getting "Error Code 1721" by the way.

What should I do, or what would you do, to start correcting these issues.

"Error code 1721" is an error associated with the windows installer and is usually corrected by an updated version. It can be downloaded from microsoft Download details: Windows Installer 4.5 Read the instructions carefully to ensure you download the correct one for your operating system.

Not sure I know exactly which version to install.
I know I have Visat Home Basic 32 bit but not which platform (?) to choose.
I'll be trying to figure it out but if you can direct me as to the proper one I'd appreciate it...My options are, x86.exe, x64.exe and ia64.exe.

I believe I also have SP2 installed.

x86 and 32bit are the same. To save you any confusion this is the version that you want Download Windows Installer 4.5 (full package) You can download it from here. I believe sp1 is the minimum requirement. If you need administrator privileges to install, right click the file and click "run as administrator".
